Today marks 100th anniversary of Western Pacific Railroad
On this date, Aug. 22, 1910, passenger service with Western Pacific officially began, the history files say. The line extended east from Oakland through Stockton, Sacramento and the Feather River Canyon to the Denver and Rio Grande terminus in Salt Lake City, a distance of some 927 miles.
